India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is taking applications for 3,047 tentative apprenticeship places at 24 work centers, offering a paid 12-month training program with a Nov. 20 deadline.

The Oct. 29 notice covers trade, diploma and graduate disciplines under the Apprentices Act, 1961. The qualification for each place varies: candidates may need Class 10 or Class 12 completion, an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) certificate, an engineering diploma or a degree.

Applicants must be 18 to 24 years old on Nov. 29, subject to age adjustments for specified groups. The notice allows five additional years for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates and three years for Other Backward Classes candidates in the non-creamy layer. Applicants with benchmark disabilities may receive up to 10 additional years, with higher limits for some reserved groups. Candidates must either be domiciled in a district eligible for their chosen work center or have obtained the required qualification there.

ONGC will rank applicants by qualifying-exam marks for each discipline and work center. Older candidates receive preference in a tie, and shortlisted applicants must complete document verification. Applications are submitted online through the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) or National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS), according to the listed trade or discipline.

Monthly stipends vary by training track. Trade apprentices qualifying through Class 10 or Class 12 are listed at Rs 8,200; one-year ITI trades at Rs 9,600; two-year ITI trades at Rs 10,560; three-year diploma apprentices at Rs 10,900; and graduate apprentices at Rs 12,300. ONGC says it will not pay transportation costs or provide boarding and lodging.

The company says the number of places is tentative and may change with its requirements. It may also extend the application deadline if too few applications arrive or it cannot find enough suitable candidates. The notice says completing the apprenticeship does not give participants a right to regular employment at ONGC. The selection result is scheduled for Dec. 15.
