Olam Agri has secured land for a proposed feed plant in Delta State aimed at serving Nigeria’s South-South and South-East, which rely on supplies from the South-West, BusinessDay reported.

The property covers 99.99 hectares in Ogwashi-Uku. At a Wednesday gathering in Asaba, state officials handed over the Certificate of Occupancy, BusinessDay reported.

Amit Agarwal, Olam Agri’s managing director, said the regions’ supply gap shaped the location choice. Olam already runs feed plants in the South-West and wants to place future production nearer customers, BusinessDay reported.

The plant is expected to improve farmers’ access to feed while reducing delivery expenses, BusinessDay reported. It said the combined effect could support poultry and livestock businesses in the South-South and South-East.

Delta State Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori said the investment would generate employment and contribute to agricultural development. BusinessDay reported that he presented a supportive business environment as part of his administration’s plan to attract investors. He praised traditional leaders and local stakeholders for helping preserve conditions that support investment, and said the certificate presentation demonstrated the state’s commitment to due process. Delta State said the project fits its goals of expanding agricultural output and drawing private industrial investment, BusinessDay reported.

Obi Ifechukwudi Okonjo II, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, asked Olam Agri to ensure local residents could benefit from the project. BusinessDay said his appeal identified jobs, internships, skills development and technology transfer as opportunities for the host community.

Agarwal credited Delta State with helping advance the investment and said Olam welcomed cooperation with public officials, traditional leaders and the host community, BusinessDay reported.
