OnePlus Watch is shaping up to be an even bigger surprise than the OnePlus 9 series for the company’s upcoming event next week. While the wearable device’s appearance remains a mystery, its technical specifications were already detailed by a known leaker.
OnePlus Watch specs: What to expect based on the latest leaks
With a few days left before the OnePlus event this month, the rumor mill is starting to fill up with more information about the first smartwatch from OnePlus. More recently, well-known leaker, Ishan Agarwal released a list of reported specs for the OnePlus Watch that suggest the newcomer could be a worthy contender in the wearable device market.
The OnePlus Watch is reported to have Warp Charge support that would let the device gain a week worth of charge in 20 minutes. The watch face is expected to have a measurement of 46mm with IP68 protection, which typically means the device is dust-resistant and can be immersed in more than 1-meter deep water for a certain period. The IP protection is usually specified by the OEM, but this suggests that the OnePlus Watch could be used to track swimming exercises.

The same source suggests the OnePlus Watch will have the basic features of a smartwatch, including sleep, heart rate, stress, and blood saturation tracking. Auto workout detection is mentioned as well. This usually means the device can sense when the user started their running or walking exercises and send an alert if they want the activity to be tracked.
OnePlus Watch also reportedly has a built-in 4GB storage and a notification system where users might be able to check incoming messages and calls. When the smartwatch was confirmed in late 2020, the company hinted that it is going to be integrated with the OnePlus ecosystem in ways other than being connected to OnePlus phones. Agarwal’s leak also revealed that the OnePlus Watch will have a special feature that lets users control their OnePlus TV through the wearable device.
OnePlus Watch release date could be announced next week
Despite earlier suggestions that the OnePlus Watch would run on Google’s Wear OS, but CEO Pete Lau has just subtly confirmed that it is no longer happening. Replying to a fan in the OnePlus forum, Lau explained, “We chose to go with a smart wear operating system developed based on RTOS because we believe it provides you a smooth and reliable experience while offering a great battery life, covering some of the biggest concerns we've been hearing from people looking to buy a smartwatch.”
It is no longer a secret that the OnePlus Watch will be announced on March 23, the same event where the OnePlus 9 series is going to be unveiled. But tech fans will still have to await further announcements about the smartwatch’s availability because all-new OnePlus products often do not get a global release initially.
