OpenAI highlighted voice conversations in Finances in ChatGPT on Nov. 3, presenting a way for U.S. users to discuss linked financial information while leaving payments and trades outside the tool.
The tool draws on financial accounts that users choose to connect through Plaid, according to OpenAI. Users can ask about expenses, recurring bills, savings and investments. A separate Experian connection provides credit reports, scores and monitoring alerts.
The connections provide information to ChatGPT but do not give it authority to transfer money, pay bills or execute trades. OpenAI describes the account access as read-only and says Finances is intended for information and planning, rather than as a replacement for professional financial advice.
OpenAI offers Finances in ChatGPT to U.S. users through its Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans. U.S. Pro users first got the tool in a preview on May 15; OpenAI began expanding access to Free and Go users on Oct. 2.
Voice was already listed in OpenAI’s Oct. 2 product update among capabilities introduced after the initial preview. The Nov. 3 video emphasized speaking to the tool but did not specify when voice support began.
Users can stop sharing account information by disconnecting their accounts. OpenAI says it deletes synced Plaid account data from its systems within 30 days of disconnection. Its guidance describes deletion of connected Experian report data separately.
Disconnecting does not automatically erase financial details included in previous conversations or saved as financial memories. Users can delete those chats and memories separately, OpenAI says. Ending an account connection and removing information already retained in ChatGPT are separate steps.
