OpenAI said Nov. 3 that Uber President Jill Hazelbaker will join as chief corporate affairs officer, a role overseeing the AI company's global communications and corporate positioning.
OpenAI said Hazelbaker will work with its leadership on public engagement around AI and the company’s mission. OpenAI President and co-founder Greg Brockman cited her experience with the obligations of scaling technology.
Hazelbaker has spent more than a decade at Uber. Her Uber remit covered people teams and safety, alongside communications, marketing and public policy. OpenAI credited her with helping Uber manage regulatory scrutiny and its public image during her tenure.
Her corporate roles before Uber included work at Google and leadership of communications and public policy at Snap. She also worked on Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign and served as press secretary to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Hazelbaker said public trust will matter more as AI becomes more widely used.
