Orange restored mobile services in France on Oct. 21 after an equipment failure in its core network disrupted calls and messages for a substantial share of consumer and business customers.

The problem began late in the morning and affected other mobile services as well, Orange said. Emergency calls remained available. The company did not give an exact starting time or say how many customers were affected.

During the disruption, Orange advised customers with access to a secure Wi-Fi network to use it for internet access, messaging and video calls.

Orange said service was operational again for consumer and business customers later on Oct. 21. It did not specify when restoration was completed or identify the equipment that failed.

The company apologized for the disruption and said its technicians would continue monitoring network stability and service quality.
