Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) appointed Adrian Hamilton-Manns as chief executive Nov. 2, placing a veteran airline executive in charge as a private consortium seeks to improve the flag carrier’s finances and operations.

The consortium, led by Arif Habib Corporation Limited, took management control of PIA on June 29. Pakistan’s Privatisation Commission said the group injected 80 billion rupees in fresh equity at that stage, intended to support the airline’s fleet, routes and service.

Hamilton-Manns succeeded Air Vice Marshal Amir Hayat, PIA said. The airline said its new chief executive has more than 30 years of aviation experience and has led three airlines.

He previously ran FlyArystan, a subsidiary of Air Astana Group. The group said FlyArystan’s revenue rose from $57.4 million in 2020 to $277.8 million in 2023 during his tenure.

PIA’s board said it expects Hamilton-Manns’ experience to help improve service and achieve sustainable profitability. The consortium has also committed 45 billion rupees at a second closing within 12 months of the first, according to the Privatisation Commission.
