Bill Ackman’s Pershing Square has successfully raised approximately $5 billion in gross proceeds through a combined U.S. initial public offering (IPO) and share placement, marking one of the largest fundraising events in recent years. The offering highlights strong investor confidence in the hedge fund’s strategy and leadership, particularly amid growing interest in high-profile U.S. IPOs.
Pershing Square USA, Ackman’s newly launched closed-end fund, is set to begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol PSUS. At the same time, Pershing Square Inc., which serves as the management entity for Ackman’s investment funds, will trade under the symbol PS. According to the company’s official statement, the total proceeds from the IPO and associated share placement reached $5 billion, aligning closely with earlier market expectations.
This IPO stands out not only for its size but also for its significance in the closed-end fund space. It is considered the largest IPO of its kind and among the most notable U.S. listings in recent years. Reports indicate that the offering was oversubscribed, with institutional investors accounting for more than 85% of the demand, underscoring strong market appetite for Ackman’s investment vehicles.
Bill Ackman, founder of Pershing Square Capital Management, gained prominence in the early 2000s through high-impact activist investing strategies. He has led successful turnaround campaigns at major companies such as Chipotle Mexican Grill and Canadian Pacific Railway. Ackman is also widely known for his profitable bet against the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis, where credit default swaps generated an estimated $1.4 billion to $2.6 billion in returns for his firm.
Pershing Square Holdings, the firm’s London-listed closed-end fund, has delivered impressive performance, rising nearly 53% over the past five years. The latest IPO further strengthens Pershing Square’s position in global financial markets while attracting both institutional and retail investors seeking exposure to its investment approach.
