Anadolu Agency reported that Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro met Myanmar Foreign Minister U Tin Maung Swe during a two-day visit that ended Thursday, as aid was distributed in Southern Shan State.

Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the ASEAN Monitoring Team observed assistance distribution at sites in Taunggyi. The ministry said the assistance was provided through the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre), with support from the Myanmar Red Cross Society.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the relief effort is expected to reach more than 11,000 households through November. Earlier EconoTimes coverage of the aid deliveries, citing the DFA, said supplies included rice, family kits and hygiene items, and that planned work covered Kayin, Northern Shan and Southern Shan states.

ASEAN’s 2021 Chairman’s Statement established the Five-Point Consensus. It calls for an end to violence and utmost restraint by all parties, dialogue, mediation by the ASEAN chair’s special envoy, humanitarian assistance coordinated through the AHA Centre, and a visit by the envoy and a delegation to meet all parties in Myanmar.
