Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. designated Nov. 16-18 special nonworking days in Metro Manila for the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, citing traffic and security needs during the meetings.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump would attend, Gulf News reported. The White House said Trump would be at the gathering Nov. 16 before traveling to China for APEC.

The Presidential Communications Office said the designation was intended to reduce traffic congestion and allow the government to put security measures in place. The meetings are scheduled for the same three days as the work suspension.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it was prepared to secure the meetings. The PNP said it was prepared to secure the gathering and was working with national and local authorities and security partners.

The Philippines chairs the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2026. Trump last visited the country in 2017, when it last hosted the summit.

The Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City is the main venue for the meetings, which begin Nov. 16.
