An unidentified assailant and a police officer were killed in an attack at Haut-Katanga's provincial headquarters in Lubumbashi, southern Democratic Republic of Congo, Anadolu Agency reported. The agency said local media reported four other security personnel were seriously injured and hospitalized.
Anadolu reported that the assailant was armed with two machetes and tried to disarm a guard. A second guard shot and killed the assailant, the agency reported.
Haut-Katanga provincial Interior and Security Minister Jean-Jacques Kashiba said investigations were underway to establish the assailant's identity and the exact circumstances. Kashiba also said an extraordinary provincial security council meeting was expected to discuss the attack, Anadolu reported.
