A Polish military court ordered three months of pretrial detention for a 31-year-old reservist on Oct. 19 as authorities investigate suspected espionage involving military facilities.
The Military Gendarmerie identified the court as Wojskowy Sąd Garnizonowy w Warszawie. It said the man holds Polish and Ukrainian citizenship and was detained by military police on Friday, Oct. 16, under a prosecutor’s order.
The gendarmerie also said he was enrolled in a course at Wojskowa Akademia Medyczna w Łodzi. Its statement did not specify that he was attending the course when he was detained.
Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk said the man had drawn attention over suspected reconnaissance of Polish military installations. He said investigators must determine whether the man was a spy or acted on behalf of a foreign state.
Tomczyk said the Military Counterintelligence Service is handling the investigation and could contact Ukrainian authorities if needed. The court’s detention order is a pretrial measure, not a finding that the man committed espionage.
