The Department of State said former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem’s envoy role had ended and her advisory role would continue; Politico reported one source alleged she prepared the letterhead for a notice she posted.

The notice appeared on Noem’s X account Oct. 16. It carried State Department letterhead and identified her as the envoy to the Shield of the Americas, a Western Hemisphere security initiative, for what the notice called a six-month appointment. The notice also portrayed her as remaining at State in an advisory position.

A source with knowledge of Noem’s work at State told Politico the department did not issue the notice and accused her of preparing its letterhead. The claim concerns the notice’s origin; the Department of State’s announcement addressed Noem’s role after her envoy assignment.

The department said last week that Noem had left the envoy post and would stay on as a senior adviser. President Donald Trump appointed her to the envoy role in March after removing her as DHS secretary. He selected then-Sen. Markwayne Mullin to replace her in that position.
