The new timeline is about two days, down from 28 days. A migration completed in 2025 moved main account balances, staking and governance activity to Asset Hub.

Polkadot (DOT) nominators face a shorter wait on newly filed unbonding requests after referendum #1910 cut the period to two eras, roughly two days, from 28 days.

The two-era period applies to requests begun after the upgrade. Requests already in progress continue under the earlier 28-day schedule, and validators have separate unbonding conditions.

Polkadot completed its Asset Hub migration on Nov. 4, 2025. The move placed main account balances there and shifted staking and governance activity onto the hub. The relay chain still secures connected parachains and supports their interoperability.

Polkadot pairs specialized networks, known as parachains, with a relay chain that organizes block production and core schedules. Parachains can exchange cross-chain messages through Cross-Consensus Messaging (XCM).

DOT supports staking and governance and can be used to buy coretime. A coretime allocation gives a parachain a period of access to a relay-chain core for computing.
