A planned Denver summit is expected to gather several potential Democratic presidential contenders Nov. 12-14, putting the party’s 2028 direction on the agenda after the U.S. midterms.
Majority Democrats will host the meeting, CBS News reported. The summit is scheduled to begin nine days after voters go to the polls in the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
Expected participants include Sen. Cory Booker, Rep. Ro Khanna and Sen. Chris Van Hollen, CBS reported. Booker sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, while Khanna and Van Hollen have discussed possible 2028 campaigns. The three lawmakers represent New Jersey, California and Maryland, respectively. EconoTimes previously covered their planned attendance at the summit.
Majority Democrats is chaired by Massachusetts Rep. Jake Auchincloss. The group says it aims to widen the party’s reach and sustain Democratic majorities. Spokesperson Matt Corridoni said the meeting would give Democrats from different parts of the party a chance to consider how they can compete in the next presidential election.
CBS has described disagreements between moderate and progressive Democrats following the party’s 2024 White House loss. Denver is also one of three finalists to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin said.
The summit is scheduled to run Nov. 12-14, after the midterm vote on Nov. 3.
