Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia would keep sending grain to African countries under commercial deals and through deliveries without payment, while separately describing past exports as support for food security.
Anadolu Agency reported that Putin made the pledge Thursday at a news conference in Moscow with Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye, after the Russia-Africa summit.
At a separate meeting on the summit’s second day, Putin said Russia had supplied more than 18 million metric tons of grain to African countries in 2025 and 13 million metric tons in the first nine months of 2026. He said those exports helped support food security in African countries. The figures describe past shipments, while the pledge concerned continued deliveries.
Putin also said Moscow sought a broad strategic partnership with African countries. He discussed Russian companies weighing production in Africa in other remarks at the summit.
