Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday, Oct. 22, that renewed negotiations with Ukraine and the United States should address security terms for a lasting peace deal, France 24 reported.
France 24 said Putin viewed a short ceasefire as too narrow a focus for the discussions. The broadcaster gave no further detail about the security provisions he wanted considered.
Russia had earlier said it was prepared in principle to resume talks with Ukraine and the United States around Nov. 10 after Putin discussed the war with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, according to EconoTimes' earlier report on the proposed talks.
Earlier coverage attributed the idea of a security system for the period after the war to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov. The Associated Press had reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supported a swift resumption of negotiations.
No peace agreement had been announced.
