SAN JOSE, Calif., March 21, 2018 -- QuintessenceLabs (QLabs) has announced the availability of a PCIe version of its groundbreaking qStream™ quantum random number generator (QRNG), the qStream 100P, which delivers 100 percent entropy at 1 Gb/s, solving the strength and speed issues of pseudo-random cryptographic applications.
As a PCIe Gen 2 card module, the main benefit of the qStream 100P is the ability to easily add true random capabilities to existing appliances. Apart from that, the qStream 100P provides the same full-entropy random numbers as the full-size qStream 100A appliance, at the same gigabit throughput.
“After many successful implementations of our qStream appliance, we started to get stronger demand for the PCIe form factor for a variety of other applications,” said QLabs CEO Vikram Sharma. “This is easily possible with our latest generation diode-based quantum random number generator, allowing us to deliver unrivaled high-quality, full-entropy random to meet all our customers’ needs.”
qStream provides random numbers to key and policy managers supporting PKCS#11 via the OASIS Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP), enabling interoperability with compliant managers, including QLabs’ own qCrypt. Random numbers are delivered as either conditioned full entropy at 1 Gb/s or unconditioned (raw) entropy at 8 Gb/s. qStream meets all requirements of NIST SP-80090B standards for Non-Deterministic Random Bit Generators.
Random numbers are necessary to generate data encryption keys and many more elements of data security, but their quality can have a significant impact on encryption strength. Most current applications use pseudo-random numbers generated using algorithms initialized using a randomization “seed”, but this can heighten security risks. Conversely, true random numbers (those with “full entropy”) are perfectly unpredictable and help generate high-quality cryptographic keys. qStream uses advances in quantum technology to deliver these true random numbers at the speeds needed for today’s most demanding commercial applications.
