The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) launched its November rounds of three recurring household surveys, gathering views on prices and finances that the central bank says help inform monetary policy.
The announcements, dated Nov. 3, describe rounds of the Inflation Expectations Survey of Households, the Urban Consumer Confidence Survey and the Rural Consumer Confidence Survey. The RBI says it conducts the surveys regularly.
The inflation survey covers 19 cities. It asks households how they expect general prices and prices for specific product groups to change over the next three months and one year. Respondents will also give numerical inflation estimates for the current period and both future horizons.
The urban survey runs in 19 cities, including Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. It asks households to assess economic conditions, employment, prices, income and spending.
The rural survey reaches households in rural and semi-urban areas across 31 states and Union Territories. It gathers views on those same subjects, both for current conditions and expectations one year ahead.
Hansa Research Group Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, will conduct the inflation expectations and urban confidence rounds. Ipsos Research Private Ltd., Gurugram, will conduct the rural round. Selected households will be contacted, and other respondents may also submit answers through survey schedules linked in the RBI announcements.
The RBI says policymakers draw on findings from these recurring surveys when setting monetary policy. The next meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is scheduled for Dec. 2-4.
