RENK Group AG completed its purchase of British defense supplier David Brown Defence on Monday, Nov. 2, adding a Huddersfield base for submarine propulsion systems and access to naval and land programs.

The German supplier said the deal with seller Stellex Capital Management closed after it received all required regulatory approvals. The Huddersfield operation will be known as RENK UK Huddersfield and serve as a center for submarine propulsion systems.

David Brown Defence makes main propulsion systems for naval vessels, submarine technology designed to reduce noise and vibration, and drive units and gearboxes for wheeled and tracked military vehicles, RENK said. The business has about 530 employees and more than 100 years of engineering experience, according to the company.

RENK said the acquisition gives it access to long-term naval programs in the United Kingdom, Canada, Norway and Australia, and supports the Global Combat Ship program. In its July 3 acquisition announcement, RENK described that program as covering up to 34 vessels, including Type 26 frigates, Hunter-class frigates and River-class destroyers. The company cited aftermarket potential over the programs’ extended lifecycles.

The deal also adds British land-defense programs Challenger 2, Challenger 3 and Boxer, RENK said. It pointed to shared manufacturing capacity and cooperation in procurement, development and market access as potential sources of operational and technical synergies.

David Brown Defence’s combined order backlog and pipeline exceeds £700 million for 2026–2030, RENK said. The company did not separate firm orders from potential business. The parties have not disclosed the financial terms.

RENK announced a binding agreement on July 3 and said then that it expected the deal to close in the fourth quarter, subject to regulatory approvals.
