Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA) and Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Center Co., Ltd. (SUTPC) will explore AI applications and plan smart mobility and low-altitude pilot trials for local transport needs.

RAKTA said Oct. 21 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SUTPC. The announcement lays out an assessment and planning framework; it names no project for immediate launch.

The possible agenda covers intelligent transport operations, public transit, autonomous mobility and AI applications. RAKTA said the partners will also examine low-altitude technologies, including unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) applications, and ways of connecting autonomous services. The arrangement includes specialized training and knowledge exchange, alongside an assessment of which technologies could fit Ras Al Khaimah's development priorities.

SUTPC presented solutions powered by TransPaaS, RAKTA said. Their listed uses include managing autonomous driving, regulating UAVs, coordinating transport and energy systems, and applying large AI models.

The partners may also examine digital twins, computer models used to study infrastructure and transport performance, alongside transit upgrades and planning for low-altitude mobility. RAKTA included transport command and control and links among autonomous services among the possible areas of work.

RAKTA described a broader goal of studying how ground transport and low-altitude mobility could be coordinated. It said proposed technologies would be assessed against local transport requirements and urban development plans. An earlier memorandum between Ras Al Khaimah and Guangdong Province dates to November 2024, RAKTA said. The authority also described the new agreement as deepening existing work with Shenzhen on smart mobility and public transport.

SUTPC is expected to visit Ras Al Khaimah and assess local transport needs before preparing a diagnostic report. RAKTA said both organizations will use the findings to work toward identifying specific projects.
