A possible $3 billion cryptocurrency conversion could give fugitive gambling businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang funds to pay others, Philippine Interior Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla said.

According to Remulla, Ang left the Philippines without passing through an official port and is somewhere in Southeast Asia. The Philippine National Police (PNP) is working with intelligence counterparts in the region to locate Ang.

At least 34 people involved in cockfighting went missing in 2021 and 2022; the cases include allegations of kidnapping, serious illegal detention and homicide. Courts in Laguna and Batangas have issued arrest warrants for Ang in connection with those cases. Ang denies any role in the disappearances.
