A Reuters report, citing a regulatory filing, says Samsung Electronics plans a 1.27 trillion won ($948.39 million) purchase of shares from Samsung Display, giving it a 10.16% stake in TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co. Ltd.

Samsung Electronics’ first-quarter 2026 interim report lists Samsung Display as a subsidiary and records the parent’s ownership at 84.8% as of March 31, 2026. The reported purchase would move the TCL China Star shares from the subsidiary to Samsung Electronics itself.

The same report describes a shareholders’ agreement with TCL and TCL China Star dated April 1, 2021. Under its terms, Samsung Display could sell some or all of its shares to TCL Technology Group Corporation if TCL China Star remained unlisted during the agreed listing period.

Shinailbo reported Sept. 10 that the option period had ended in July without Samsung Display exercising it, and that the subsidiary still held 10.16% of TCL China Star.

Samsung Electronics’ 2023 business report records another transaction between the companies. It says TCL China Star acquired Samsung Display’s full holding in Samsung Suzhou Module Co. Ltd. and 60% of Samsung Suzhou LCD Co. Ltd. on April 1, 2021.
