Ripple Labs and the SEC also settled on March 25, 2025, to conclude their long-running court fight. Under the settlement, Ripple will be paying a reduced fine of $50 million, reduced from the initial $125 million fine, and will be getting back $75 million from the SEC.
The SEC also has committed to dismissing its appeal of an earlier court ruling that stated Ripple's XRP sales on retail exchanges were not transactions of securities. Ripple has, in turn, committed to dismissing its cross-appeal. The SEC is set to request the dissolution of an injunction against Ripple, which had earlier required the registration of future securities offerings.
Following the settlement announcement, XRP's price jumped first, indicating a positive market sentiment. The settlement could be seen as a regulatory policy shift in terms of regulation for cryptocurrencies, where the SEC has relaxed enforcement action against other crypto firms in recent history.
