Rory McIlroy will return to the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January 2027, putting the tournament’s only four-time champion in position to pursue a fifth title at its $9 million event.
The four-day tournament is scheduled for Jan. 21-24 at Emirates Golf Club. The 2027 edition will be the 38th and the first Rolex Series event on the DP World Tour’s schedule for the year, the tournament said in its Oct. 19 announcement.
“I’ve always considered Dubai a second home,” McIlroy said in the announcement. The tournament’s official history traces its run to 1989 and identifies him as its only four-time winner.
McIlroy’s titles came in 2009, 2015, 2023 and 2024. His first victory there, in 2009, was also his first as a professional. A fifth win would extend his record at the event.
The PGA Tour says McIlroy’s successful Masters defense in April 2026 gave him his sixth major title. Patrick Reed won the 2026 Dubai Desert Classic, the tournament said.
The DP World Tour says McIlroy’s 2025 Race to Dubai win was his seventh, one behind Colin Montgomerie’s record of eight. The Desert Classic is one of the tour’s annual events in Dubai.
For spectators, registered general admission is free on Jan. 21 and 22. Early bird adult general admission for Jan. 23 or 24 is listed at AED 85 per day. Children 17 and younger can attend free with a registered ticket and an accompanying adult.
The tournament FAQ says the full field list will be available two weeks before play begins.
