A Royal Navy sailor facing five charges, including offenses over protected information, appeared in a London court, where prosecutors discussed his alleged interest in a foreign intelligence website.
Reuters reported that 24-year-old Teddy Young is accused of acquiring, copying, recording or retaining protected information from November 2024 through May 2025. Of the five charges, two fall under the National Security Act, while one alleges misconduct in public office, Reuters reported.
Prosecutors said at an earlier court appearance this month that Young’s Navy role involved warfare intelligence. On Friday, prosecutor Kelly Brocklehurst said Young appeared interested in a website created by a foreign intelligence service. Brocklehurst identified the service as Russia’s foreign intelligence service (SVR).
Young joined the Old Bailey hearing remotely from Belmarsh prison, Reuters reported. He was not asked to enter a plea.
Police said the charges are unrelated to an ongoing investigation into an incident at RAF Fairford. Reuters reported that U.S. bombers had used the base for strikes on Iran before they were withdrawn. Young’s trial is provisionally listed to begin in October 2027, the outlet reported.
