U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said work on possible postwar security arrangements for Ukraine and Europe has advanced, while no plan is settled, as Russia-Ukraine diplomacy continues.
Rubio said Sunday that “nothing’s been finalised yet,” though discussions in Abu Dhabi might bring progress. The talks would address security arrangements for Ukraine and the wider European continent after the war.
AFP said U.S.-mediated talks are set to begin in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday and continue Wednesday. The agency also reported that U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to represent Washington in Abu Dhabi.
Rubio told reporters that security guarantees remain a recurring subject in efforts to end the war Russia launched in 2022. Rubio is due in Paris for a separate meeting with G7 foreign ministers.
The comments follow Rubio’s earlier remarks on Donbas’ central role in the peace effort, covered in EconoTimes’ report on the Donbas dispute. The Abu Dhabi negotiations are the next scheduled step in the discussions.
