The Bank of Russia has made three crypto assets eligible for exchange offers to nonqualified investors, but each platform can decide whether to list them.
Ether (ETH), USD Tether (USDT) and Bitcoin (BTC) are on the central bank’s eligibility list. Its screening weighed an asset’s market size, typical daily trading activity and whether overseas venues held price records for at least five years. The bank said those checks are intended to limit risk for nonqualified investors.
Both qualified and nonqualified investors must complete a test and assess trading risks before making purchases, the Bank of Russia said. Under the rules, nonqualified investors may spend up to 300,000 rubles a year through each intermediary. Qualified investors may buy any cryptoasset without a purchase ceiling.
The Bitcoin Historian used a Nov. 6 video to portray the bank’s step as authorization for public Bitcoin trading during November. The rules establish eligibility, but they do not require exchanges to list the assets. EconoTimes previously outlined which crypto assets qualify under the framework. The rules take effect Nov. 17.
