President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian strikes left at least 550,000 families in Ukraine without electricity overnight on Oct. 18-19 Kyiv time (UTC+3), as the Energy Ministry reported attacks on energy facilities in 11 regions.

Grid operator Ukrenergo reported outages in 10 regions and said repair crews were working where conditions allowed. The outage figure and the Energy Ministry’s count describe different effects of the attack: where power was lost and where energy facilities were struck.

Kyiv police reported that a 21-year-old woman was killed and eight people were injured in the capital overnight. Authorities in nearby Irpin reported a woman killed and 19 people injured on Oct. 19, including nine children.

Donetsk region police reported two deaths and two injuries from attacks in Kramatorsk and Druzhkivka on Oct. 18. That report covers a different period from the overnight accounts in Kyiv and Irpin.

The Ukrainian Air Force counted 269 drones in the overnight assault, including 59 jet-powered drones. It said air defenses neutralized 243 drones and four Iskander-K cruise missiles.

The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine warned on Oct. 16 that renewed attacks on electricity and heating infrastructure would increase civilian suffering as winter approached. Its verified count for September 2026 was 328 civilians killed and 2,105 injured across Ukraine.
