Ryanair Moves Airport Check-In and Bag-Drop Cutoff to 60 Minutes Before Departure

The change begins Nov. 10, replacing the current 40-minute limit. Ryanair says 20% of its passengers check bags; online check-in users without checked luggage are unaffected.

Ryanair passengers checking bags will need to finish bag drop 20 minutes earlier from Nov. 10, as the airline says the change will leave more time for airport security and passport control.

At all Ryanair airports, the deadline will be 60 minutes before each flight’s scheduled departure. It is currently 40 minutes before departure.

That leaves customers with checked luggage 20 fewer minutes to complete the process. Ryanair says 20% of its passengers check bags, while travelers who complete online check-in and have no checked bag face no change.

Ryanair said the extra time is intended to help travelers clear screening and passport checks when airports are busy. It also says delays in those lines have contributed to some passengers missing flights.

The airline first announced the plan April 22 and reiterated it in an Oct. 27 reminder. The 60-minute cutoff starts Nov. 10.
