Salesforce will acquire Rune Technologies to bring military logistics software designed for limited network access into Missionforce, extending the cloud company’s defense business to supply and movement planning for frontline units.
Salesforce disclosed the agreement Thursday, Oct. 29, and left the purchase price unstated. It has not released other financial terms.
Rune’s TyrOS product combines AI decision support with predictive analytics for military logistics. Rune says the software keeps inventory, route and vehicle details available offline, allowing planning to continue when field teams lose network access. It sends data when a connection returns. Salesforce says the addition is intended to bring frontline supply and movement choices into Missionforce’s wider coordination workflows.
Rune already has ties to the U.S. Army. A modification dated Oct. 2 increased the ceiling on a separate five-year indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract from $99 million to $349 million. That ceiling applies to the Army contract, not Salesforce’s planned purchase of Rune. The Army also named Rune among software vendors selected for Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) contracts. The group’s initial one-year value was about $93.6 million; the Army did not state Rune’s individual amount.
In a Sept. 16 update, Salesforce said its defense business was growing 80% year over year and that it had customers in each of the six U.S. military branches. Salesforce introduced Missionforce about a year before the Rune agreement, according to the company.
Kendall Collins, president and CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud at Salesforce, called it the company’s “most significant acquisition in this space.”
Reuters reported that some investors worry broader AI adoption could weaken demand for traditional software. The news agency placed the Rune agreement in the context of Salesforce’s wider acquisition activity tied to AI.
Salesforce expects to complete the purchase during its fiscal 2027 fourth quarter, provided customary closing requirements are met. The company has not given a more specific closing date.
