The much awaited Samsung Gear VR is now available for pre-order in the U.S., the Korean tech giant announced on Tuesday according to Samsung Electronics Official Blog. Samsung partnered with Facebook-owned Oculus to bring the revolutionary product to consumers.
It is lighter than the previous Gear VR Innovator Edition, and includes foam cushioning for more comfort. Also, the touchpad has been improved, providing greater control and easier navigation.
Priced at $99.99, the latest device is compatible with Samsung’s 2015 flagship smartphones, the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. The blog post said that an update for the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note 5 will be available in time for the Gear VR launch to make the phones compatible with the new headset.
Users will be able to play several new 'made-for-VR' games launching on Gear VR, including Land’s End by UsTwo and Gunjack by CCP Games. Also, in addition to Oculus Video (which includes videos and films from Lionsgate, 20th Century Fox, Twitch, and Vimeo), Gear VR users can watch entire Netflix catalogue of award-winning original series, documentaries and films.
The Gear VR can be ordered online on Samsung.com, Amazon.com and BestBuy.com, and will begin shipping as early as November 20, the press release said. It will be available online at Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Samsung.com and at retail at BestBuy, by November 20. T-Mobile will offer the Gear VR beginning November 27 in stores and online at T-Mobile.com.
