Scottish Greens MSP Kate Nevens and Scottish National Party MP Lara Bird said Israeli authorities held their delegation at the Allenby/King Hussein Bridge for hours Monday and refused it entry to the West Bank.
Bird said the group was detained for eight hours and turned away without an explanation. Former Labour MP Sam Tarry told The Guardian he put the detention at nine hours.
The Guardian reported that 23 people were in the delegation and that it was traveling to Progressive International’s Second Ramallah Congress. Sky News reported that Labour MP Clive Lewis described plans for discussions at Birzeit University with Palestinian students and civil society representatives, as well as time with farmers during the olive harvest.
The denied entry stopped the delegation’s planned West Bank visit.
