David Teboul, who was serving as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) assistant commissioner when charged, pleaded guilty to one count of assault in an Abbotsford court on Oct. 28, 2026, after an off-duty incident in the city on July 2, 2025. The plea came more than a year after the British Columbia Prosecution Service said he faced three charges involving two complainants.
An agreed statement of facts read in court said Teboul grabbed a 16-year-old by the neck with enough force to lift the teenager against a low wall, The Canadian Press reported. The report said a second grab lasted 15 seconds and bent the youth over the wall. The Canadian Press also reported that the statement said Teboul identified himself as a police officer during the assault, which may have led the teenager not to fight back, and that Teboul later gave Abbotsford police an account “inconsistent” with video shown in court. The Canadian Press reported these details from the agreed statement of facts read in court.
