Israeli settlers assaulted Bernard Baudoux, mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries, in Taybeh on Oct. 17, and France called on Israel to arrest and prosecute those responsible.

France’s Foreign Ministry identified the French, Belgian and Polish consuls general in Jerusalem as targets in the incident. Its statement did not say the diplomats were physically assaulted. The Guardian reported that the delegation had traveled to Taybeh to visit Palestinian olive harvesters.

The ministry called for Israel to detain those responsible and pursue legal accountability. France also said settlement activity harms Palestinian rights and stability in the West Bank. EconoTimes previously reported 10 arrests in a West Bank violence investigation during the olive harvest.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said it reviewed at least 16 incidents involving at least 35 Palestinian, Israeli and international journalists in the West Bank from January through August 2026. CPJ compared that period’s figures with 13 incidents involving 25 journalists across all of 2025.

In a separate report, CPJ described a settler attack on Agence France-Presse photographer Jaafar Ashtiyeh on Oct. 6. That incident falls outside the group’s January-August count.
