Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) is advancing a Dh2.4 billion infrastructure program aimed at raising annual passenger capacity above 25 million by the end of 2027 amid rising traffic, Gulf News reported.

In a report last updated Nov. 2, Gulf News said SAA Chairman Ali Salim Al Midfa gave a passenger count of 11,601,728 for Jan. 1 through Sept. 30, 2026. The outlet put traffic at approximately 19.48 million passengers in 2025, an increase of 13.9%.

The airport’s route network reaches more than 100 destinations worldwide, according to Gulf News. The outlet said those connections support Sharjah’s role as an aviation hub serving international travel, tourism and trade.

Al Midfa described the infrastructure work as part of a broader development strategy that also seeks airline partners and additional destinations. The program is intended to expand the airport’s ability to handle demand and improve operations and the passenger experience, Gulf News reported.

SAA will participate in World Travel Market London, scheduled for Nov. 3-5, 2026, at ExCeL London under the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority’s umbrella. Gulf News reported that SAA has maintained a presence at the event for more than two decades. The authority plans to use this year’s gathering to explore markets, track travel trends and build international partnerships.
