VALLEY CITY, Ohio, Nov. 01, 2017 -- An industry leader in lightweighting, Shiloh Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:SHLO) was recently honored at the 2017 International Die Casting Design Competition with an Excellence Award for the development of an aluminum cast, overdrive gear carrier.
The North American Die Casting Association (NADCA) recognized the structural integrity of Shiloh’s multi-functional, lightweight casting. The innovative design maintained strength and performance requirements, while reducing part weight by approximately 60% over steel, and eliminating an extensive secondary processing saving overall costs.
“Utilizing aluminum over traditional ferrous sintered metals resulted in a significant mass savings in the transmission, which can increase efficiency and improve fuel economy in the vehicle,” said Don Carter, director, advanced manufacturing engineering. “Shiloh’s proprietary, high-integrity casting process yields outstanding mechanical properties from an aluminum casting.”
The 2017 award, for excellence in structural/high integrity aluminum die casting, is Shiloh’s tenth international design award from NADCA.
“We are honored to be recognized once again by NADCA. Shiloh’s unique ability to develop innovative lightweighting solutions continues to assist our customers in reaching their performance and regulatory requirements, while also benefitting the environment,” according to David Jaeger, Shiloh senior vice president and managing director.
