Al Jazeera reported that singer Stevie Wonder backed Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race, adding a high-profile endorsement to the election campaign.

Al Jazeera also reported that Wonder expressed support for Democrats more broadly. Wonder said, “Our future depends on it.”

El-Sayed is the Democratic nominee and faces Republican Mike Rogers for the seat held by retiring Sen. Gary Peters. The Associated Press has described keeping the seat as important to Democrats’ effort to win a Senate majority.

The race has also drawn support across party lines. EconoTimes previously reported that Democratic U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens backed Rogers, sharpening a party-unity dispute in Michigan.
