Solana Foundation pages set different outside-stake thresholds for retirement from its validator delegation program, giving participants conflicting guidance on when Foundation delegations should stop under those rules.

The Foundation’s FAQ says retirement is triggered when a validator’s stake from outside the program exceeds 300,000 SOL. Its delegation criteria page sets the threshold above 1 million SOL. Neither page specifies which figure applies.

Separately, the FAQ says program membership lasts 12 months. That period starts in the first mainnet epoch when a validator becomes eligible for Foundation stake. Retirement ends Foundation delegations, but validators may continue operating on Solana and request renewal.

The pages also describe different onboarding schedules. The FAQ says batches of 100 testnet validators are added weekly; the delegation program page gives a monthly cadence. Neither page states an overall membership cap. As of Epoch 1079, the dashboard listed 327 validators receiving Foundation stake and 23.75 million SOL in total Delegation Program stake, equal to 5% of total staked SOL.

The Foundation says stake matching is meant to help validators attract community delegations and become more independent. The program page also describes a taper in eligible vote-cost coverage during a participant’s first year: 100% in the first quarter, then 75%, 50% and 25%, before coverage ends. The Foundation describes the reduction as an incentive for validators to build stake levels they can sustain. The FAQ says testnet validators participate at their own cost.

The program’s focus on attracting outside stake connects with EconoTimes’ earlier reporting on Solana validator stake concentration.
