Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade is due to enter its scheduled activation epoch Wednesday, with the Solana Foundation targeting a reduction in transaction finality from about 12.8 seconds to around 150 milliseconds.
The Foundation expects epoch 1064 to start at about 11 a.m. ET Wednesday (15:00 UTC), Oct. 21. TowerBFT, the network’s current consensus method, will remain active for the first 5,000 slots, or about 18 minutes, before Alpenglow takes over. The Foundation’s upgrade page showed the mainnet feature gate had not yet activated when checked.
At 11:49 a.m. ET Saturday, Oct. 17 (15:49 UTC), Binance displayed Solana (SOL) at $103.80, down 0.63% from 24 hours earlier. The snapshot follows EconoTimes’ prior Binance price report on SOL, which placed it at $104 on Friday.
Under Alpenglow, validator nodes are expected to relay voting messages directly to one another, with approvals collected into certificates, the Foundation says. The target is for transactions to reach finality in about 150 milliseconds, compared with roughly 12.8 seconds under TowerBFT. The Foundation says a block could become final after one or two voting rounds. Finality marks when a transaction is treated as settled; it does not measure how often blocks are produced. The Foundation says the consensus changes leave transaction execution, fees, wallets and apps functioning as they do today. The 150-millisecond figure is a target, and mainnet performance after activation remains to be observed. The Foundation describes faster settlement as the upgrade’s main user-facing benefit.
CoinGape’s chart analysis identified $105 as resistance. It said a four-hour close above that level could shift attention to chart marks at $110 and $115. The outlet identified $100 as support and said a four-hour close below it could expose SOL to $97 and $95. Those are conditional levels in CoinGape’s analysis.
The Foundation has outlined Rotor as a later phase without a scheduled date; epoch 1064 on Oct. 21 is the next scheduled step.
