Solana’s Alpenglow Runs on Mainnet With a 150-Millisecond Target

The upgrade replaces TowerBFT, which the Solana Foundation lists at about 12.8 seconds to finality. The 150-millisecond figure is a design goal, not a measured result.

Solana’s Alpenglow consensus protocol is now active on mainnet, replacing TowerBFT with a design targeting final settlement in about 150 milliseconds, far below the prior system’s listed finality time.

The Solana Foundation lists TowerBFT finality at about 12.8 seconds and describes 150 milliseconds as Alpenglow’s target. That figure is a design goal, not a reported measurement of mainnet performance.

Finality is the point when a blockchain treats a transaction as settled. Alpenglow changes how validators reach agreement on transactions. The Foundation says transaction execution, fees, wallets and apps continue to function as before.

EconoTimes previously covered Alpenglow’s activation and finality target.
