Sony Group raised its full-year operating income forecast by 9% to ¥1.87 trillion after quarterly sales and operating income reached second-quarter records, with growth in its Games and Pictures businesses supporting the upgrade.

For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, Sony now expects sales of ¥13 trillion, 4% above its previous forecast, and net income of ¥1.33 trillion, up 10%. In the three months ended Sept. 30, sales rose 10% to ¥3.4294 trillion and operating income increased 45% to ¥622.3 billion. Net income attributable to Sony Group stockholders gained 44% to ¥449.6 billion. Sony said sales and operating income were records for a second quarter.

The Game & Network Services segment posted sales of ¥1.2085 trillion, up 9%, and operating income of ¥220.1 billion, an 83% increase. Sony said the year-earlier comparison included ¥49.8 billion in one-time losses. Without those losses, segment operating income would have risen 29%.

Pictures sales increased 48% to ¥513.7 billion. Operating income reached ¥92.6 billion, compared with ¥13.9 billion a year earlier. Sony credited much of the higher theatrical revenue to Spider-Man: Brand New Day and lifted its full-year Pictures operating income forecast 33% to ¥200 billion.

Sony said its All Other segment incurred about ¥30 billion in additional losses tied to Sony Honda Mobility. Separately, Reuters reported that Sony’s quarterly operating income was above the ¥505 billion average estimate of 12 analysts polled by LSEG.

Sony Group Chief Financial Officer Lin Tao said changes to pricing and promotions, together with cost savings, helped cushion higher memory costs for PlayStation 5 consoles. Sony expects hardware profitability this fiscal year to be level with the previous fiscal year.

Sony's release slate includes Jumanji: Open World in December 2026 and the animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in the following fiscal year.
