South Korea’s Kospi rose 3.29% Wednesday as semiconductor shares rebounded, while Australian data center operator NEXTDC plunged after a power delay forced it to cut revenue guidance.
The Kospi closed at 5,735.66, recovering from a 3.7% drop in the previous session. Samsung Electronics rose 5.67% and SK hynix gained 5.81%, Yonhap reported. Yonhap linked the gains partly to improved sentiment after a U.S. server maker’s sales update; an analyst it cited also pointed to bargain hunting.
Super Micro Computer, Inc. estimated sales of $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion for its fiscal first quarter, above its previous guidance of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion. The quarter ended Sept. 30. Super Micro cited increased demand for artificial intelligence platforms and said the preliminary, unaudited figures could change.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed at 64,621.24, up 0.85%. Japan’s Ministry of Finance reported that exports rose 16.7% in September from a year earlier, including a 49.4% increase in the value of semiconductor exports. Imports climbed 18.9%, leaving a ¥536.558 billion trade deficit.
In Australia, NEXTDC Limited reduced its net revenue forecast for the financial year ending June 30, 2027, to A$475 million to A$500 million from A$615 million to A$640 million. The company said the power delay at its M3 Melbourne data center will push back when it can serve some contracted customers and charge them. NEXTDC shares closed down 41.7%, Reuters reported.
NEXTDC said Jemena Electricity Networks (Vic) Ltd paused portions of the power upgrade amid local objections, safety and access concerns, and pending council consent. NEXTDC expects another increase in grid supply during its 2028 financial year. The affected customer retains rights that could include credits or contract termination under certain circumstances, the company said.
Super Micro has scheduled a conference call for Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. ET to review its fiscal first-quarter results. NEXTDC said it will announce the outcome of a capital spending review by its Nov. 20 annual general meeting.
