The 1st Airborne Special Forces Brigade, part of the Republic of Korea Army, has drawn criticism after a runway-walking session prompted questions about its fit for a unit responsible for high-risk missions.
The Korea Herald reported that the Oct. 29 session took place in a gymnasium at the brigade’s base. Models demonstrated runway walking and poses, and soldiers practiced the movements before taking turns on the runway. The event was called the K-Walking Performance Military Festival.
The newspaper reported that a former special forces YouTuber supplied the footage exclusively to TV Chosun. The video showed models wearing camouflage and high heels as soldiers practiced walking and posing. Online responses questioned how the activity related to the brigade’s special operations role, the Herald reported.
An Army official described the session as part of twice-yearly character-building training intended to improve soldiers’ posture. The official said the Army had not adequately reviewed the activity beforehand and that it did not fit the brigade or its personnel.
The Army said it would seek soldiers’ feedback while planning future programs and assess whether upcoming training is suitable for the units involved.
