SpaceX's 2027 order for 6,000 racks puts a hardware figure on its orbital data center plans, alongside the planned one-gigawatt deployment that defines the project's intended scale.

The racks are designated for a space data center. The one-gigawatt figure describes the planned deployment, and the report presents both as future steps in the project.

SpaceX has separately asked the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to approve an orbital data center system involving up to one million satellites. The filing describes operating altitudes of 500 to 2,000 kilometers. SpaceX submitted its request Jan. 30, and a Feb. 4 FCC notice opened it to public comment. That review process did not authorize the company to begin operations. EconoTimes previously covered the FCC filing for the proposed satellite system.
