The death toll from Spain’s Oct. 28 train collision stood at 69 in the regional emergency service’s Oct. 29 update, while King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia visited injured passengers in Toledo.
The regional service listed 69 deaths. EFE reported that an investigation record hosted by the Transport Ministry briefly showed 74 before reverting to 69. Ministry sources did not confirm the higher figure and referred EFE to the regional count. A previous EconoTimes report on the toll and recovery work covered the earlier update.
The Royal Household’s agenda listed the monarchs’ Oct. 29 visit to the University Hospital of Toledo. EFE reported that they met injured people and relatives, and that 15 patients were in intensive care at the hospital during the visit.
Castilla-La Mancha President Emiliano García-Page reported 110 injured, 60 discharged and 50 still hospitalized across several hospitals. He said four of the 15 people classified as code red were improving.
The Spanish government declared three days of official mourning, through Oct. 31, and said investigators were working to establish what happened.
