Spain's government linked five deaths to rain from Storm Adam, while MetDesk said Storm Austen was bringing damaging winds to southwest England and Wales. Eastern Spain's reported evacuations took place earlier in the week.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez linked the five deaths to Storm Adam's rainfall during an Oct. 20 visit to Oliva, according to the government's account. An EFE account counted three storm victims and said a farmer's death remained under investigation, as noted in EconoTimes' earlier coverage of the evacuations.
The Generalitat Valenciana issued a temporary confinement order covering 145 municipalities in Valencia and Alicante on Monday, Oct. 19. The Civil Guard's update that day listed 496 rescues and 2,141 evacuations in the provinces, along with 1,343 officers deployed there.
Rubén del Campo, a spokesperson for Spain's State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), said Pego recorded 632 liters per square meter over 36 hours. Nearly 430 liters fell within six hours.
MetDesk identified Austen as the United Kingdom's first named storm of winter.
