What’s buzzing around crypto-universe? As the technology industry evolves, we witnessed application of technologies in various walks of our lives. How about the combination of sports and technology? In the recent trends, it’s been witnessed that both sports and technology are complimenting each other segment. We’ve seen that application of technologies in different gamut of sports, like, tennis, F1, cricket and football (for an instance, Decision Review System (DRS) in cricket, Video Assistant Referees (VAR) in football have emerged).
We recently reported that the latest football team to get involved with digital assets in some capacity is top division of French football team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
The celebrity club intends to unveil its own digital asset during spring of 2019. The fans are enabled by the tokens to vote on “cosmetic” decisions of the club, such as, music played in the stadium, the colour of the team’s away shirts, and awards for stand out performances from the players, amongst others, as per a post by the Malta Blockchain Summit.
Various sports-stars have been showing their interesrts by playing their roles as brand ambassadors for tech giants. Earlier this year, a famous English Premier League’s club Arsenal became the first football club to enter into a pact to promote a crypto-currency.
Another instance is that the Cyprus-based cryptocurrency exchange, CoinDeal’s partnership with English Premier League football club Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) has been a significant event not only for cryptocurrency and blockchain industry but also for the sports world.
Furthermore, former Ivory Coast captain and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has been a brand ambassador for “all.me” which is a cryptocurrency platform that vows to contribute to advertising revenue with users.
Likewise, Argentinean and FC Barcelona star footballer, Lionel Messi has been no exception from the race, he endorsed a blockchain-powered smartphone startup that is likely to assist Andhra Pradesh (a province in India) building its new smart capital. He also claimed that in a promotional post on behalf of one company that he had been "digging deeper into blockchain and decentralized systems".
The endorsements from footballers has increased this year including Luis Suarez, Luís Figo and Brazilian Ronaldinho.
Many clubs have already agreed to set-up their digital wallets for the cryptocurrency trials. If this trend persists, it seems like premier league club would to be paying for the star players in bitcoins.
