Stablecoin transfers classified as payments reached $482 billion through Sept. 30, Allium reported, while token supply edged up 0.4%, showing payment growth outpaced the amount outstanding.
Payment value advanced 45% over the period. Allium counted 1.04 billion transactions in the payment category, a 71% increase, while the average amount per transaction fell to $462 from $544. The pattern means the higher total came with more transactions and lower average values, rather than larger average payments.
Third-quarter payment value exceeded the year-earlier quarter by 51%. Allium put September’s payment total at $72 billion, the largest monthly reading in its report. The count and value gains came alongside a smaller average payment.
About one-fifth of Allium’s $2.4 trillion adjusted transfer volume was classified as payments. That adjusted figure covers part of a much larger $97.9 trillion in recorded transfers from January through September. Allium excluded exchange and decentralized finance activity, infrastructure transactions, automated transfers, and mint-and-burn activity from the broader set. Its screening rules shaped which transfers qualified for the adjusted and payment totals.
The two headline measures describe different things. Payment value sums transfers Allium classified as payments during the reporting period; supply measures the amount outstanding at September’s end. The supply total was $305 billion then, 0.4% above its level at the start of the year, while the payment figure accumulates activity across nine months.
Taken together, the figures track payment value, transaction frequency and token supply separately. Allium measured a 45% increase in payment value and a 71% rise in transaction count alongside a 0.4% supply increase. September’s $72 billion total was the report’s monthly high.
