Staples Canada plans to bring Toys“R”Us Canada and Parties“R”Us Canada into its retail network, targeting close to 300 shop-in-shops through 2027 and giving the brands a new channel after the former Canadian operator’s bankruptcy.

Staples Canada said it was named the official and exclusive Canadian retail partner for both brands in an announcement on Nov. 3. It chose its branch at 45 Red Maple Road in Richmond Hill, Ontario, for the initial installation; an opening event is scheduled for Nov. 14. The company also plans a digital experience through staples.ca.

Staples said the product mix will be tailored to each concept, with some items available exclusively through the shop-in-shops. Parties“R”Us Canada is a new format for the retailer, built around celebration supplies. Planned offerings include balloons, seasonal merchandise, licensed party goods and other supplies.

The rollout target is close to 300 Staples locations through 2027, rather than a guaranteed final count. Staples’ Nov. 3 announcement did not identify which branches would follow Richmond Hill or give individual opening dates. The company cited its stores and online platform as ways to introduce the brands to more Canadian families, but provided no sales projection or financial terms for the arrangement.

The partnership comes after Toys “R” Us (Canada) Ltd., the former operating company, sought creditor protection under Canada’s Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) on Feb. 3, 2026. Alvarez & Marsal Canada Inc., the court-appointed monitor, reported that the CCAA proceeding ended Oct. 5 and that the company made an assignment in bankruptcy that same day.

The brand’s intellectual property changed hands through a separate transaction. An Ontario Superior Court order records that Ad Populum LLC’s purchase agreement was assigned to Next Century Ipco Can ULC. Staples identifies Next Century as its partner and the intellectual-property purchaser; Alvarez & Marsal said the transaction closed July 13, 2026.

The next scheduled milestone is the Richmond Hill opening event on Nov. 14.
